The West Cargo Facilities Project expanded San Francisco International Airport's cargo operations through construction of a new 100,000-square-foot cargo and office complex supporting air freight operations and airport logistics. The facility includes a one-story cargo building flanked by two three-story office wings and required extensive site development within an active airfield environment.
A unique challenge of the project was its location directly adjacent to active airport operations.
Construction required relocation of an existing taxiway before foundation work could begin, along with continuous coordination with airport operations to minimize disruptions to aircraft movements and ongoing cargo activities. The project also included utility relocation, hazardous materials abatement, and extensive site improvements.
As part of a joint venture with The Allen Group and Don Todd Associates, EPC Consultants provided resident engineering services, supporting construction coordination, field oversight, utility relocation, hazardous materials coordination, and project administration throughout the successful completion of the facility.
