SFO Terminal 2 Modernization

The Terminal 2 Modernization Project transformed an aging passenger terminal into one of the nation's first LEED Gold-certified airport terminals, supporting San Francisco International Airport's long-term modernization program. The $383 million design-build project included substantial demolition, expansion, and renovation of the existing terminal and Boarding Area D to accommodate growing passenger demand while improving the overall traveler experience. Upon completion in 2011, the renovated terminal increased airport capacity by approximately four million passengers annually and introduced modern passenger amenities, expanded concessions, upgraded baggage handling systems, and enhanced building systems.

Major improvements included seismic reinforcement of the existing structure, expansion of Boarding Area D, construction of new glass and metal exterior systems, modernization of HVAC and electrical systems, installation of inbound and outbound baggage screening systems, and integration of specialized airport operational systems. The project was delivered while maintaining airport operations and established a new benchmark for sustainable terminal design.

EPC, as a member of the T2 Partners joint venture, provided design management, project controls, and office engineering services. EPC supported project coordination, schedule management, documentation, and construction administration throughout the successful delivery of this complex design-build terminal modernization.
