The Blue Plains Tunnel is a key component of DC Water's Clean Rivers Program, providing critical conveyance capacity between the Anacostia River Tunnel System and the Blue Plains Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant. Constructed deep below the District, the tunnel captures and conveys combined sewer overflows that would otherwise discharge into local waterways during major storm events.
The project supports DC Water's long-term strategy to improve regional water quality while expanding the capacity and reliability of one of the nation's largest advanced wastewater treatment systems.
EPC provided construction management support throughout construction of the Blue Plains Tunnel, assisting with resident engineering, construction oversight, contractor coordination, quality assurance, and field inspection services. EPC's involvement helped support the successful delivery of this important component of DC Water's nationally recognized Clean Rivers Program.
