Master Plan Program
Terminal 2 Project
List of Additional Airport Projects: Maintenance Projects
|
The Terminal 2 Project, which began in 2008, continues the process of modernization and redevelopment initiated with the San Francisco International Airport Master Plan Program and calls for substantial demolition, expansion and remodeling of the terminal and boarding area facilities along with other ancillary improvement projects. Once complete in early 2011, the state-of-the-art terminal will accommodate the growth in passenger traffic and the demand for airline gates for two carriers, American Airlines and Virgin America. The $383 million design-build project is slated to achieve Gold Certification under the US Green Building Council’s LEED program, the first registered airport terminal in the United States. It was designed to improve indoor air quality, reduce energy consumption, and will reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the facility by an estimated 1,667 tons per year. The terminal will be approximately 640,000-sf inclusive of 14 gates, 12 restaurants, retail stores, a gourmet marketplace, wine bar and a spa. The project also included seismic reinforcement of the existing concrete and steel structure, expansion of the Boarding Area D, construction of new glass and metal panel exterior, roof and interiors, inbound and outbound Baggage sorting and screening systems, modernization of HVAC, electric and building support systems and integration of airport-specific special systems and equipment. As a joint venture representative of the construction management team, T2 Partners, EPC is providing design management, project controls and office engineering services.
